Seattle has always been a boom town, shaped as much by the gold rush of the 19th century as by the explosion of the tech industry today. Join editor Jaimee Garbacik and artist Shelly Leavens as they discuss their anthology Ghosts of Seattle Past, which seeks to reconstruct community hubs lost to growth through essays, interviews, photography, and comics. Bring your own stories of Seattle’s long-gone places to be mapped and remembered!
Copies of Ghosts of Seattle Past will be available for purchase in the museum store and the authors will be available for book signing.
Jaimee Garbacik is a book editor, writer, artist, youth equity advocate, and the owner and founder of Footnote Editorial. She previously authored Gender and Sexuality for Beginners, currently on curricula at more than a dozen universities. She is a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and the Northwest Independent Editors Guild, and former programming chair of The Vera Project.
Shelly Leavens is a multi-disciplinary artist, writer, curator, and oral historian. She has curated exhibitions at the Kirkland Arts Center, Gage Academy of Art, and the Museum of Northwest Art among others and taught at the University of Washington Museum Studies Certificate Program and numerous Oral History workshops in the Puget Sound region.
