Major! Movie Night + Fundraiser
June 10, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
MAJOR! chronicles the life and activism of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a Black transgender elder at the forefront of struggles for trans women of color for 40 years and counting. Miss Major is a veteran of the 1969 Stonewall riots, a survivor of Attica State prison, a mother of four, and the executive director of the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project, empowering trans folks victimized by the prison-industrial complex. In 2016, MAJOR! garnered tremendous international praise, showing at over 60 film festivals around the world earning 19 awards for best documentary. SYPP is honored to have the privilege of showing this film, and strengthening the QTPOC community through Miss Major’s powerful story of resilience and resistance.
Join SYPP’s showing of Major! Saturday, May 20th at the Hillman City Collaboratory! Suggested donation is $2, however, despite committing decades of her life to QTPOC liberation, Miss Major is still fundraising for her retirement. We encourage you to donate more, and all donations made will go to her fund and covering the cost of the venue. There will be free & confidential HIV testing provided at this event by Marques at Lifelong!
