Manifest your true performance persona and generate new work! Are you looking to harness your stage voice and embody your performance persona? Mirrored: A Queer Performance class for both emerging and seasoned poets and writers, facilitators Imani Sims and Anastacia Renee will help you leap out of your comfort zone using writing, body movement, performance art, music and your own creativity as a conduit for polished performance poetry. Whether you are a musician, dancer, performance artist, poet, or curious, in this free 12 week class, we promise to challenge you to take risks and mirror your own excellence.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Imani Sims is a spicy Chai tea loving Seattle native who spun her first performance poem at the age of fourteen. Since then, she has developed an infinitely rippling love for poetry in all of its forms. She believes in the healing power of words and the transformational nuance of the human story. Imani works to empower youth and adults through various writing courses and interdisciplinary shows all over Washington. She is a 2016 CityArtist Grant recipient, Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas curator, and Gay City Arts Fellow where she brought Afrofuturism and Performance Art together for eight shows. Her book (A)live Heart is forthcoming on Sibling Rivalry Press this Fall.

Anastacia Renee’ is a queer super-shero of color moonlighting as a writer, performance artist and creative writing workshop facilitator. She is the Writer in Residence at Hugo House and has received awards and fellowships from Cave Canem, Hedgebrook, VONA, Jack Straw, Ragdale and Artist Trust. She was recently selected as the 2015-16 Writer-in-Residence at Hugo House, a place for writers in Seattle. Her Chapbook 26, published by Dancing Girl Press, is an abbreviated alphabet expression of the lower and uppercase lives of women and girls. Her poetry, & fiction have been published in Bone Bouquet, Literary Orphans, Bitterzoet, Radius Poetry, Seattle Review, Duende, Dressing Room Poetry and many more. Recently Anastacia Renee’ has been expanding her creative repertoire into the field of visual art, and has exhibited installations surrounding the body as a polarized place of both the private and political. Lately she’s been obsessed with the body’s memory and infatuated by myths, fables & imaginary truths and her one woman show, 9 Ounces.
