Nevermind 25
September 24, 2016 @ 10:00 am - September 25, 2016 @ 5:00 pm
Nirvana’s Nevermind is turning 25! Visit EMP on September 24 to celebrate its enduring brilliance with rare footage, new artifacts, and retail specials all day.
If Nevermind’s sound is familiar now, it’s only because of the multitudes of rock records that followed inspired by its groundbreaking sound. The album spoke to a generation and is remembered as one of the most influential rock albums of all time—changing the course of popular music as we know it today.
This 25th anniversary celebration is taking over the museum! Immerse yourself in the Nevermind experience with a playlist of songs from the album plus some that inspired Nirvana’s singular sound, view rare and unseen Nirvana footage on the massive Sky Church screen, and take a volunteer-led gallery tour highlighting Nevermind inside EMP’s Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses, the world’s most extensive exhibition of Nirvana memorabilia.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Free pins and other Nirvana-related swag at the ticketing counter (while supplies last)
• Display of Kurt’s Sunburst Stratocaster, played at Reading Festival, UK on August 30, 1992 in Sky Church—even though it’s one of the longest-lasting guitars he played, Cobain smashed it along with fan Jim Garrett at the Morocco Shrine Temple in Jacksonville, Florida on November 26, 1993 (lucky for us, it was later reassembled for display)
• Super rare footage of Nirvana’s first TV interview and Dave Grohl’s first show with the band at the North Shore Surf Club on Sky Church screen
DISCOUNTS AND RETAIL SPECIALS (SEPTEMBER 24 ONLY)
• $5 general museum admission discount for anyone wearing Nirvana apparel or with a Nirvana concert ticket stub
• 10% off any Nirvana purchase at EMP Stores
