NW New Works Festival: Wknd 1: Studio Showcase
June 9, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - June 11, 2017 @ 5:00 pm
Now in its 34th year, the NW New Works Festival features established artists from a variety of performance disciplines, upholding its mantra to create a platform for tomorrow’s artists today within the Northwest’s creative community. Curated by a panel of peer artists and administrators from across the region, the Festival provides rehearsal time, an honorarium, documentation, and the opportunity to present work at OtB.
WEEKEND 1: STUDIO SHOWCASE
JUN 9-11
CAMEO LETHEM
Isla (Dance | Seattle)
A dance experiment, using light beams and violins, investigates an individual’s perception of isolation amid a collective of shared, physical experiences.
KATIE PIATT
Male Fragility: A Night of Rant & Reason (Performance | Portland)
Patriarchy’s tradition of cutting off men from their feelings and solely rewarding aggression leaves us all with stories to tell, and sometimes, to rant.
PETE (Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble)
Deception Unit (Theater | Portland)
Kitchen sink realism is slowly suffocated with a pillow of subtext, and the narrative goes into witness protection.
KIM LUSK
Quartet for the Dead Set (Dance | Seattle)
Subtle humor, technical footwork, 90s pop beats and a bit of country giddy-up in a story about the ultimate power of the unlikely winner.
