“The Old Boy’s Club Starts Early: Gender Biases in Biology Classrooms” with Dan Grunspan, PhD student and biocultural anthropologist at UW Dept. of Anthropology.
Across degree programs in the biological sciences, women outnumber men. When you look at a college-level classroom in Biology, it is hard to imagine that this field isn’t female friendly. However, despite the high numbers of women earning degrees, gender inequities in undergraduate-level biology classrooms can be widespread and likely influence whether or not women are likely to pursue a career in science after they complete their degree. Join Dan Grunspan as he shares what happens when we ask students in large undergraduate biology classrooms to identify peers in their class they think are strong with the class material.
