STILL HERE.
January 20, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 1:00 am
For many of us in the Seattle community, Inauguration Day will be difficult – a reminder of how much harder we now have to fight for our essential human rights-
STILL HERE is a community event and forum designed to be a safe space for local artist of all types, and their respective friends and allies especially women, PoC, undocumented and documented immigrants, LGB/Trans/Queer, disabled and differently abled people, and all marginalized, disenfranchised peoples and communities to come together and pronounce that we are STILL HERE.
STILL HERE as unique individuals.
STILL HERE as a diverse community of allies.
STILL HERE as a force of hope and resistance.
This event is about you and what you want to express and share with the community. Participation is encouraged.
We define art as any expression that aims to raise critical consciousness, build community, and motivate individuals to promote social dialogue and change. Participation can take many forms across the three main rooms at the Velocity Dance Center.
MAIN ROOM = ENTERTAINERS
you will have an opportunity to share yours with the community. The details are all up to you. There are opportunities to perform and acquire tips. You decide if you want to donate proceeds to one of the non-profits.
SIDE ROOM = ACCOMPLICES
are those are in the field directly serving the peoples, we invite you to come participate by sharing resources and information. You are welcome to bring a cash donation box for financial contribution. Or if you are not able to attend, connect to discuss who we can help spread the word for you.
BACK ROOM = COLLABORATORS
are those who support the community as local businesses, craftsperson and/or visual artist. You too are welcomed to utilize the space to connect and there is absolutely never a cost to participate or sell. You decide if you want to donate proceeds to one of the non-profits.
Entrance will be a sliding scale from $5-$20 which will be donated to selected non-profits. No one turned away for lack of funds.
FREE for participating ARTISTS and ALLIES representing NONPROFITS.
To demonstrate our support for local social justice warriors, all the entrance fees will be donated to 5 local charities. In addition, there will be cash donation boxes set up for all participating nonprofits.
To end the night, we will have a dance party with uplifting songs spun by DJ Jose Tello to help us start off these next 4 years with positive energy and togetherness!
In order to keep this event a safe space for all, we ask ONLY ONE THING of ALL ATTENDEES:
Please acknowledge and commit to demonstrating respect for the groups of people this event is designed for – women, PoC, undocumented and documented immigrants, LGB/Trans/Queer, disabled and differently abled people, and all marginalized, disenfranchised peoples and communities. We will have designated people at the event ensuring respectful behavior, but your help as a participant goes a long way in creating and ensuring a safe space.
