The Queens is a new feature-length documentary from the production company The Reporters Inc., a 501(c)(3) journalistic nonprofit based in Minneapolis. The Reporters Inc. has teamed with Neighbours Nightclub & Lounge and U.T.O.P.I.A. (United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance) to provide this one-night-only event!

Part Paris is Burning, part RuPaul’s Drag Race and part Miss America, The Queens explores the transgender subculture of competitive female impersonation. Along the way, the film delves into the fascinating history of Chicago’s iconic female impersonation show lounge, The Baton, and its legendary offspring, the Miss Continental beauty pageant. The primarily transgender entertainers immersed in this community share the highs and lows of their lives as they compete for the coveted crown.

Your $12 ticket is fully tax deductible and it will help The Reporters Inc. secure funding for post-production costs for the documentary, in order to launch it into wide circulation.

Now in its 38th year, Miss Continental is the first national beauty pageant to embrace transgender female impersonators. The pageant is a spectacle of unparalleled glamour, beauty, talent, illusion and perseverance, drawing performers from around the globe. With exclusive backstage access, The Queens reveals the joys and struggles of a community searching for acceptance—in a world that often misunderstands or scorns them.
