Venice is Sinking Masquerade Ball
February 18, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 1:00 am
TICKETS: https://veniceissinking2017.eventbrite.com
Celebrating the 10th annual VENICE IS SINKING MASQUERADE BALL at the (bigger and newly renovated) Seattle Design Center.
Venice’s grand Carnivale celebration is coming to Seattle again – and this year will bring back some of your favorite performers, with a lot of fresh, new faces.
The Grand Atrium will be transformed into Piazza San Marco – the main public square in Venice, Italy.
Street side cafes and bars line the canals, sparkly cafe lights twinkle overhead, Venice’s canals are lit up in splendor – and then! all of a sudden someone is juggling tableside, or performing contortion, or playing the violin.
There’s SO many opportunities for people watching, as so many guests arrive in full regalia — splendid in period piece costumes, powdered wigs and ballgowns. (The first 100 guests to enter the costume contest – via the ticket link – get to arrive early to the Ball to stroll the red carpet to the awaiting Judges, and show off their finery. Great prizes for Best Couple, Best Female & Male costumes.)

*Jose Iniguez – Opera Tenor
*Shanghai Pearl – Burlesque

MARIE ANTOINETTE “LET THEM EAT CAKE” DESSERT BAR:
An array of decadent petite four cakes, macarons, pastries and other delectables awaits you – guarded by Marie Antoinette herself! Each guest gets one entrance to the dessert buffet and 5 mini desserts.
COSTUME CONTEST: Open to the first 100 guests who register (it’s on the eventbrite.com ticket link – and is free to participate). All costume contest participants get to enter the Ball before the doors open to the rest of the guests! You’ll be formerly presented to the judges who are awaiting you at the end of the red carpet (i.e., “Presenting Lady Patricia and Lord Andrew from the County King) – Fab prizes for the Best Couple’s costume, Best Female and Male.
We’re still a few months out, so we’re still making arrangements and plans – so check back often. But…THE BALL SELLS OUT EACH YEAR, so don’t delay too long in purchasing your tickets!
………..HOTEL: We will be getting a hotel sponsor who will give us a slightly discounted room rate for our guests.
………..DRESS CODE: The Ball is a formal event. Wear either a tuxedo or suit (men) or a long gown (ladies). Guests are highly encouraged to wear period piece Victorian era costumes to really play the part. This is not required though.
EVERYONE MUST WEAR A MASK IN ORDER TO GAIN ENTRY TO THE BALL! NO EXCEPTIONS. If you arrive at the Ball without a mask, you will have to buy one onsite. You can also have your mask painted on (elaborately, this is not child’s face painting. Ask us for referrals if you’d like a professional makeup artist to do your mask.)
