W.E.R.Q. Winter Institute begins on March 2nd of 2015 and ends April 3rd of 2015. W.E.R.Q. Winter will incorporate writing and spoken word to teach civic engagement, leadership skills along with building supportive and healthy community networks through an anti-oppression, intersectional and LGBTQ culturally competent lens to help install a sense of pride in self and a sense of belonging by being part of a larger community.
The course consists of 4 sessions amounting to a total of 8 hours with 10 participants ranging from the ages of 14 to 26. The course includes an event/show as a graduating project. Participating youth/young adults will learn event/show production and outreach as leaders in organizing the end-of-the-course event/show.
