WHAT THE PEOPLE IN SEATTLE
LIVING WITH HIV HAVE TO SAY
ABOUT HIV CURE RESEARCH
Members of the defeatHIV Community Advisory Board will share the qualitative results from 4 focus groups of people living with HIV (women/long-term survivors/Latinx gay men/young adults recently infected) that were conducted in Seattle.
We want to discuss the results of this research with the communities infected and affected by HIV, with local researchers and staff of community-based organizations interested in community perspectives on HIV cure research, and–most importantly–with the participants of each focus group.
Cure is a new idea for people with HIV to grapple with; it has different meanings and different implications depending on people’s lived experience.
Designing and implementing cure trials that better meet the psychological and practical needs of HIV+ people will be critical for enrollment and retention in these studies and may hasten the day when we find a cure for HIV.
