One Degree Productions/Seattle PrideFest announced over the weekend the dates and events for PrideFest 2011 and this year’s PrideFest theme of “Show Your True Colors”:
It all kicks off on Thursday, June 2 with the official Kick-off Event, (Location to be announced in March). Then, the Big Weekend gets rolling on Thursday, June 23 with PrideFeast, a celebration of Pride at participating area restaurants with a portion of proceeds to go to a local non-profit. Things go into high gear on Saturday with RED: The Big Pride Parties and this year the Lady Loving Ladies get their own event so there will be TWO official Pride Party events. And, for the first time, there will be an official Seattle PrideFest Benefit Concert with a national headliner, also on Saturday, June 23. at the Mural Amphitheatre at Seattle Center. These scheduled official Saturday PrideFest events and the lack of any announcement from any group regarding Saturday Capitol Hill Pride events indicate that last year’s Saturday Capitiol Hill Pride Event/Street Fair may not return. Seattle’s Museum of Mysteries, which instigated and organized last year’s Capitol Hill events has gone out of business but last year’s event wasn’t judged much of a success with a notable lack of booths, entertainment, or planned events and activities of interest to the general public. It’s only January so some group could still step forward to announce that there will be events on the Hill, and we’ll keep you posted. But, it does seem likely that the long tradition of the Saturday evening “Dyke March” will continue. The grassroots demonstration of lesbian pride is a high point of Pride weekend for Puget Sound lesbians and their allies and a popular event for the entire community.
And, the Big Day itself, Sunday, June 26 will host the Pride Parade in downtown Seattle and the PrideFest celebration at Seattle Center. which runs from Noon to 8pm with three stages, national and local performing artists, beer gardens, booths and much more. And while the official schedule will not be released until June, look for more announcements about official PrideFest events in the coming weeks and months. Also note, that One Degree Productions does not put on the PrideFest Parade, which is organized by Seattle Out and Proud. Details on the Parade will soon be announced as well.
