SIFF Sunday: Last chance to see “Lesbian Space Aliens” at SIFF.

May 29, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

There are three queer themed films on the agenda for today, Sunday, May 29…and they all play roughly at the same time so you have some tough decisions to make…

Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same. In a galaxy not so far away, the planet Zotz is being destroyed by the overactive emotions of its inhabitants. In order to prevent the hole in their planet’s ozone layer from growing bigger, three lesbian space aliens are sent to Earth with a mandate to fall in love and have their hearts broken. Director Madeleine Olnek and actress Jackie Monahan will attend….and, if you haven’t checked out our awesomely funny interview with them, you should do so…we conducted it, in their BED! Zexy! Screens today (Sunday) at 4pm at the Egyptian.

Gun Hill Road. Director Rashaad Ernesto Green and producer Ronald Simons will present this compassionate film about a man returning after a three-year prison stint struggling to pick up the pieces as his teenage son enters the early stages of gender reassignment. Today at 3:30pm at the Admiral.

Hit So Hard. Legendary hard-hitting drummer Patty Schemel shares the most intimate and outrageous moments in her tumultuous life as a rock star in this revealing documentary. Patty Schemel, director P. David Eversole, Larry Schemel, and producers Todd Hughes and Christina Soletti are all scheduled to attend the screening. Final SIFF screening is Sunday, at 4pm at the Neptune.

Not queer but certainly of interest…

We Are the Night. Seductive female vampires convert a new recruit to join them while they club-hop in Berlin and party the night away-leaving a pile of unsuspecting boys drained of blood. German with English subtitles. 6pm at the Egyptian. Repeats Monday at 1:45pm, also at the Egyptian.

Surrogate Valentine. Catch glimpses of Seattle in this film about a San Francisco indie musician, Goh Nakamura, who is assigned by a filmmaker friend to teach a musically challenged TV star to play guitar in this nuanced comedy. Also catch the Q&A with director Dave Boyle and actor/co-writer Goh Nakamura. Tonight at 9:30pm at Harvard Exit and tomorrow, Monday, at 3:30pm at the Admiral.
