For the 367th time we sit down with one of our favorite local actors, Mr. Nick Garrison (“Hedwig & The Angry Inch”; “Cinderella”) for a video taped interview. This time, we came to talk about his bravura performance in Seattle Rep’s production of Doug Wright’s Tony/Pulitzer Prize award winning play, “I Am My Own Wife” which opened last week and runs until March 4, 2012. Also joining us is the play’s director and the Artistic Director of the Rep, Jerry Manning, and the three of us discuss the challenges of staging a solo show and the importance of the piece to LGBTQ audiences. “I Am My Own Wife” is the true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite who lived through 75 years of 20th century history and under two oppressive regimes: the Nazis and the Communists.
Part Two of the interview is coming soon, AND we also have an exclusive interview with the playwright, Doug Wright in the editing stage, as well.
For tickets to this amazing show (review coming soon, too) go to the Seattle Rep website. And, for the transgendered community, there will be a special performance of the play on February 24th, with an after performance discussion with both Mr. Garrison and Mr. Manning.
