Three Hedwigs Walk Into A Bar…John Cameron Mitchell & Neil Patrick Harris Visit The Vaudevillians

We completely understand why Dan Von Dandy, aka Major Scales, aka actor/composer Richard Andriessen appears to be having the vapors in this photo. Major Scales/Mr. Andriessen is, of course, the co-star/co-creator, with Kitty Witless/Jinkx Monsoon/Jerick Hoffer, of their off off Broadway hit musical revue, “The Vaudevillians”. The show was originally booked for ONE NIGHT ONLY back in July at The Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City but rave reviews from fans and critics, including The New York Times, has led to numerous extensions for the show. AND, a number of well known names/faces have dropped by the show including Joan Rivers and Kim Coles.

But, from a homosexual superstar standpoint, the biggest names of all dropped by this weekend. The two creators of “Hedwig & The Angry Inch”, composer Stephen Trask and writer/star John Cameron Mitchell along with actor Neil Patrick Harris who’s currently rehearsing to take “Hedwig” to Broadway in the spring, all stopped by The Laurie Beechman to check out a performance of The Vaudevillians and popped backstage to offer congrats to Mr. Hoffer and Mr. Andriessen.

It’s pretty damn cool to see all this big gay talent in one big gay room. SQUEEE!

We might also suggest that Mr. Hoffer could understudy/eventually replace Mr. Harris in the Broadway run of “Hedwig” at some point…though, it could be a case that Mr. Hoffer is already overbooked for 2014. The Vaudevillians are already apparently scheduled for a long springtime tour of Australia and a summertime visit to Provincetown for 57 shows at the Art House Theatre.

But, we know Mr. Hoffer is up on the part…he just won a Gregory Award for performing Hedwig at The Moore Theatre in the Balagan Theatre production from last January. And, that performance is being reprised this December for a week long remount of the show.

And, last we heard, Mr. Trask and Mr. Mitchell are working on a SEQUEL to “Hedwig & The Angry Inch”. No word on when that will see the light of day.

That’s a lot of Hedwig news for one day…an awful lot of column inches for a show with only one inch.

If you’re in NYC or will be in the next few days, go grab tickets for The Vaudevillians, HERE! It’s currently scheduled through November 19, 2013.

If you’re gonna be in NYC after March 29, 2014, you might wanna go buy your tickets for Neil Patrick Harris starring as Hedwig at The Belasco Theatre over HERE.

Finally, Seattle “Hedwig” fans can go over HERE to grab tickets for the December 17 – 22, 2013 reprise of “Hedwig” with Jerick Hoffer and Erin Stewart back for another go round as Hedwig and Yitzhak.
