“Community Stories” the rather blandly named but otherwise terrific documentary series made by the Seattle Channel just released their latest piece (directed by Jeff Gente) and it’s about one of our most beloved institutions and the people behind it…Seattle and Capitol Hill’s very own THE WILDROSE, our only lesbian bar in town and one of the oldest continuing lesbian bars on the West Coast.
We’re thrilled the ‘rose and its owners, Shelley Brothers and Martha Manning received the recognition. They’ve been at the heart of not only Seattle’s lesbian community but all of our communities that overlap each other: queer, gay, Capitol Hill. Unlike many women-centric bars, The Wildrose is accepting to all (as long as you respect the rules!) though that wasn’t the case in the early days when it was a women only space. Now, The Wildrose is at the heart of the entire Seattle Queer community. Enjoy this look at its history.
And, a toast to Martha, Shelley and the entire team at The Wildrose!
