Martin Shkreli, the smug faced pharmaceutical entrepreneur grabbed headlines earlier this year after he took over Turing Pharmaceuticals and promptly raised the price of the drug Daraprim from $13.50 to $750, a jump of 5000%. Daraprim is the only approved treatment for toxoplasmosis that mainly strikes pregnant women and cancer and AIDS patients. The huge media backlash against Turing and specifically Shkreli, caused the company to announce that price would be slashed but Turing only partly fulfilled that promise.
Now, Mr. Shkreli is back in the news. The whiz kid investor was arrested at his Manhattan home earlier today and charged by federal prosecutors with securities fraud. Shkreli is accused of embezzling funds from another company he created to pay off personal debts.
The 32 year old Shkreli has been living a big profile lifestyle since becoming a media star which has included also making headlines for buying the only existing copy of WuTang Clan’s album “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin” for $2 million.
The news of his arrest has sparked a pronounced display of schaudenfreude on social media at Shkreli’s misfortune.
Yes, Karma IS a harsh mistress….
It could only get better if someone force fed him a litter box of cat poo…a sure fire way to give him a raging case of toxoplasmosis.
