Stress Relief: The 5th Avenue’s Annual “Sound of Music” Sing-A-Long Is This Weekend

The caca has already started with our new Congress even before our new orange overturd takes office and for many of us, we’re a stressed bundle of nerves. We’re going to have to do everything in our power to keep our morale UP and our blood pressure DOWN! One surefire way is to do lots and lots of pleasing, soothing, comforting things…

Like the annual “Sound of Music Sing-A-Long” at the 5th Avenue Theatre in downtown Seattle.

It stared out as a one time event then went to two shows and now it’s up to 4 performances typically held on the first weekend in January. It’s exactly what it sounds like…a hosted sing-a-long of the beloved film version of the beloved Broadway musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. It’s family fun for the entire family and it tends to sell out. As of right now (Thursday January 5) they do have seats available for all four shows: Friday, January 6 and Saturday January 7 at 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday, January 8th at 1:30 pm. Grab tickets HERE!

There’s even a costume contest…and, we know a lot of you have appropriate costumes. Dresses made out of curtains (I’ve known many a faux scene queen who used to whip up hideous gowns out of curtains and a staple gun; lookin’ atchu Matthew!!!) or nun outfits. EVERY self respecting homo I know has a nun outfit or two!!!

Here’s a bit more poo including the lovely co-hosts, two popular local stage stars and cutie pies, Richard Gray and Kirsten deLohr Helland who starred as Maria in the 5th Avenue’s production of “SOM” back in December of 2015.

Kirsten deLohr Helland in the 5th Avenue's "The Sound of Music" in December of 2015. Kirsten will co-host the 2017 Sound of Music Sing-A-Long at the 5th Avenue this weekend.

Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music

Jan 6 – Jan 8, 2017

The smash-hit musical show that has been all around the world and is now back in Seattle!

Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film musical in glorious, full-screen technicolor, complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along! Be sure to arrive early to participate in the very popular costume contest. Get those vocal chords warmed up, cut up those chintz curtains and hurry down for the perfect night out.

The Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music is approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours, which includes the costume contest, the movie and an intermission.

We’re so excited to introduce you to the two amazing co-hosts who will be there for every presentation: Richard Gray and Kirsten deLohr Helland.

It’s for your own good to joyously sing along with those divine songs by Rodgers & Hammerstein. You owe yourself a treat with one of your “Favorite Things”….
