Gay City Arts the arts arm of Gay City, the health project turned LGBTQ community center hybrid on Pike Street has two interesting shows this month….one is “vulgar” and the other is getting “mad”.

First up:

Gay City Arts presents

Black and brown, trans, and queer femme artists face a uniquely extreme version of the virgin and slut societal paradox.

Vulgar [noun]: kitschy, coarse, gaudy, making explicit reference to sex or bodily functions, racy, flamboyant.

Come be immersed in the celebration and exploration of black and brown trans/queer artists as we embrace all the facets of sexuality, sensuality, and erotica that our souls and art have to offer. Come uplift space for your local black femme magicians!

Let’s Find Glory in the Vulgarity!

I’ll be honest…I don’t really have a clue what this show is all about but it sounds fascinating.

We’re definitely on #TeamVulgarity

At least the second “mad” show of the month gets a bit more specific about its madness. AND, has a listed line-up of awesome talent!

Gay City Arts presents
GET MAD!

A Multimedia Show
by Kayla Rosen

October 19-22 | 7:00pm (doors at 6:30pm)
Calamus Auditorium at Gay City
517 E Pike Street | Seattle

General Admission: $15
Students, Seniors, Folks w/ Disabilities: $12

Radical Hospitality Tickets**: Free

Get “Mad” tickets HERE!

Madness is a complicated, ever-shifting identity, at times coercively assigned to those of us whose minds and ways of being defy the norms, and at other times proudly (re)claimed for ourselves.  Madness can come as a breaking point when weve endured too much trauma, but that same rupture can liberate us into new possibilities. Get Mad! celebrates madness in all its complexity through spoken word, performance art, film, and trans-media magic.  Featuring performances by Kayla Rosen, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, billie rain, Vita B, and Jess Horn, and co-hosted by Anastacia-Renee.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
