Seattle Asian American Film Festival Returns With Gay Film “Golden Delicious”

February 16, 2023• byMichael Strangeways

After a couple years of being online only (due to ‘you know what’) the Seattle Asian American Film Festival returns to in-person programming from February 23 through the 26th. It’s their 11th annual festival and for folks who enjoy watching films from the comfort of their own homes, they’ll also continue having content online from February 27th through March 5th.

Not surprisingly, since it’s a film festival in gay ole Seattle, there will be LGBTQ+ content as well including several queer short films (you can search for LGBTQ films at the festival’s website: https://saaff2023.eventive.org/welcome )

There’s even a feature film with all gay content; it’s a revisit of a popular film that played the Seattle Queer Film Festival last year: GOLDEN DELICIOUS. The plot:

“When basketball-obsessed Aleks moves in across the street, Asian Canadian teen Jake finds himself trying out for the basketball team to get his attention in this classic coming-of-age drama set in the digital age.“

The screening is being co-presented by Pride Asia and Seattle Queer Film Festival and it’s happening on Sunday, February 26th at 1pm at Northwest Film Forum.

ALSO, the film festival’s opening night party should be a lot of fun featuring terrific entertainment including popular local drag stars like Kylie Mooncakes. It’s happenning Thursday, February 23rd. The deets:

Come party, drink, and dance with us at Washington Hall to celebrate our Opening Night and the start of our first in-person festival back since 2020. Doors open at 9pm and include live performances from our headliner I///U, with Seattle Kokon Taiko, DJ Cupid and drag performances from Kylie Mooncakes and Rubi Venus.

But, not necessarily in that order.
