We’ve known our girl Jinkx Monsoon was going places the very first time we laid eyes on her back in 2010…she was obviously a force to be reckoned with as she performed her own version of Mrs. Lovett from “Sweeney Todd” at a TShack event at Chop Suey. I wasn’t the only one to marvel at her talent and charisma. Since then, Jinkx has blazed up the ladder of show biz success by winning RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Five and established herself as an internationally renowned drag queen/cabaret performer with gigs all over the world.
She climbed a few more rungs up that ladder in the last year by winning Season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars becoming the first contestant to win two titles. And, most recently she made her Broadway debut at the first of the year in the long running musical, “Chicago” where her presence playing the role of Mama Morton earned her not only huge amounts of national media attention but she also caused broke records at the box office selling out performances that hadn’t been sold out in years.
NOW, our darling diva has made another big climb with the announcement from the BBC and producer/show runner Russell T. Davies that Jinkx would be playing a “major role” in the currently shooting Season 14 of the iconic 60 year old fantasy/science fiction television series.
Russell T Davies, Showrunner said: “In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!”
Davies is the out gay writer/produer who was also responsible for the Dr. Who reboot in 2005. He’s also the writer/creator of popular gay shows like “Queer as Folks” and “It’s a Sin”.
Jinkx also commented on her casting:
Jinkx Monsoon, said: “I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer— I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”
Jinkx will join the new 15th doctor, Ncuti Gatwa who will debut as the Doctor over the Xmas/New Year holidays. Dr. Who fans are currently stoked to see three special episodes in November with former Doctor David Tennant returning to the role alongside one of his most beloved companions, actress Catherine Tate.
In a new deal with Disney+, new episodes of the series will now air exclusively on Disney+ for territories outside the UK and Ireland where the show will air on the BBC.
