It’s a brand new year full of hope and promise and the terrifying reality of yet another Donald Trumpf Regime wrecking havoc in our lives and so that means some people resolve to…make resolutions! Yes, ’tis the season to make those New Year’s Resolutions on ways to improve our lives physically, emotionally, spiritually, sexually, and…well, via what we shove in our mouths. For some folks, that might mean cutting out/cutting back on eating quite so much meat. Yes, I see the irony of a site for the gays promoting NOT shoving meat in our mouths but…it is kinda funny. Kinda. And, the “meat eating” humor only really works for Those Of Us Of The Meat Gobbling Persuasion. Obviously. I digress.
Here are some vegan/vegan friendly dining options in Seattle…if we left out one of your favorites, then let us know in the comments!! Cheers!
Top of the list, two popular, long running “upmarket” favorites:
Plum Bistro, 1429 12th Ave, Capitol Hill
Plum has a lot going for it: it’s central location in the gay neighborhood; it’s a black owned business, led by acclaimed chef Makini Howell, and it’s probably the most popular vegan place in town thus you WILL probably want to get reservations. It’s a casually upscale environment; wear nice (non leather) shoes and a cute hat! The weekend brunch is especially beloved. https://plumbistro.com/
Cafe Flora, 2901 E Madison St, Madison Valley
Another very popular, more upscale bistro type option with vegan and vegetarian options, this cherished restaurant down in Madison Valley at the eastern foot of Capitol Hill has been drawing veg lovers for over thirty years. It’s another place where you’ll want to get reservations for those special occasions. They also have Flora Bakehouse up on Beacon Hill. https://florarestaurantgroup.com/restaurant/cafe-flora-seattle/
Araya’s Place, 5240 University Way NE, U-District
For those on a budget, Araya’s has been serving cheap, veg Thai food to hawngry University students for decades with a very popular lunch time buffet. https://www.arayasplace.com/
The Wayward Vegan, 801 NE 65th St, Roosevelt
Another option “up north” in Seattle’s Roosevelt district along 65th Street (and convenient to the light rail station), this budget and family friendly option is 100% meat/animal free with all your beloved diner favorites on hand. https://waywardvegan.com/
Sunlight Cafe, 6404 9th Ave NE, Roosevelt
Just a couple blocks away from Wayward is Sunlight, an old school veg cafe, that’s more vegetarian than vegan. It’s been around for a thousand years and popular with old school granola eater hippie types. Peace, man. https://sunlightcafevegetarian.com/
Vital Creations, 3601 Fremont Ave N, Fremont
Serving up a wide variety of options including meat free burger options and Asian/Mexican choices, this popular Fremont eatery keeps veg loving local tech drones well fed. https://vitalcreationsvegancafe.com/
Harvest Beat, 1711 N 45th St, Wallingford
Another “fahncy” choice, this bistro is another “you’re gonna need reservations” type of place. People queue up for mung bean crepes and stinging nettle soup and lots of seasonal choices. https://www.harvestbeat.com/
Cycle Dogs, 1514 Leary Way NW, FreLard (closer to Ballard)
Yes, it’s a hot dog/hamburg kind of place but all that meat is SOY! AND, it’s LGBTQ owned! SWEEEEEEEET!!! And, super affordable for folks on a budget! https://order.toasttab.com/online/cycle-dogs
BaBar Green, 500 Terry Ave N, South Lake Union
It’s not all veg but BaBar’s South Lake Union branch has plenty of delicious meat free options under their ‘green’ branding and is a popular option for the area’s many veg eating South Asian tech workers hungering for delicious Vietnamese dishes without a wisp of meat. https://www.babarseattle.com/babar-green/
Veggie Grill, 1427 Fourth Ave, Downtown and U-Village
The ubiquitous chain has a downtown Seattle location where some swear that the plant based burgers are “da bomb”. There’s another branch at University Village. https://www.veggiegrill.com/location/veggie-grill-downtown-seattle/
Dada’s Plant Based Burgers & Breakfast, 4611 36th Ave SW, West Seattle near Fauntleroy/Alaska Jct
One of your very few plant based options in the far off reaches of WeSea (my new fun nickname for West Seattle). As, the name suggests….burgers. Breakfasts. And, very ‘dada’ but probably not in the fun, French, weird arty way. https://www.dadasplantbased.com/
Habesha Cafe, 5710 Rainier Ave S, Hillman City
This beloved Ethiopian restaurant isn’t all vegan/veg but has many delicious plant based options to choose from and is a popular choice in Seattle’s South End. https://habesha.cafe/
Seattle Lotus Vegetarian Restaurant, 10439 16th Ave SW, White Center
An inexpensive Asian vegetarian option in the heart of funky White Center. https://www.seattlelotus.com/
