Hedwig/Rocky Horror Double Header Coming To The Showbox In August

May 1, 2025• byMichael Strangeways

For fans of queer musical theater, you’ll want to mark Saturday, August 2nd on your To Do Calendars…that’s the night Chandelier Productions will present a night of magical musical theater: back to back LIVE performances of the beloved musicals, The Rocky Horror Show and Hedwig & The Angry Inch! And, all in support of a great cause, the Transgender Law Center!

And, to repeat, this is a LIVE event and not the film versions of both shows…it’s the ultimate queer musical double feature and live on stage at The Showbox in downtown Seattle. Tickets are already on sale at https://www.showboxpresents.com/events/detail/961503

And, the producers and venue also wants you to beware that while you are encouraged to dress up as your favorite characters, you’ll need to leave your “Rocky Horror” props at home!

TWO MASTERPIECES OF GLAM ROCK AND HORROR IN ONE SMASH SHOW!
All in support of Transgender Law Center

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW and HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH

This is not a movie screening, or a shadow cast, this is the real deal.
Two of your favorite Broadway musicals presented back-to-back as a live double feature!

The Rocky Horror Show: The cult classic phenomenon that tells the story of two naïve lovers, Brad and Janet, who just want to use the goddamn telephone. It starts with a flat tire, but ends with an orgy of sex and death. Seeking shelter from a thunderstorm in an old castle, they find themselves thrust into the laboratory of pansexual, mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his gang of sadistic minions. Stripped of their inhibitions—and their clothes—Brad and Janet embark on a wild, unforgettable odyssey of carnal pleasures and self-discovery.

MORE SEX! MORE BLOOD! MORE MUSCLE! This is The Rocky Horror Show like you’ve never seen before. Bikers! Go-go girls! Aliens! All through the lens of 1960s and 70s exploitation film. Our show goes where other late-night lingerie shows don’t dream of going. It begs the audience – don’t dream it, be it.

HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH: The award winning raw, emotional, and darkly comedic story of “internationally ignored song stylist” Hedwig Schmidt, a fourth-wall smashing East German rock ‘n’ roll deity. Through a mix of monologue and rock songs Hedwig recounts her life journey – a powerful exploration of identity, love, betrayal, transformation, and the search for wholeness. Amid the gags, riffs, and glam rock set list, Hedwig sucker-punches you with her story—that search for your other half, whatever or whoever that is, that feeling of not fitting in, of being the odd one out, and what it means to finally embrace your fractured self and fi nd liberation through self-acceptance.

Note: Thank you for respecting our cast and venue. Come dressed as your favorite character, but remember audience participation in the form of water pistols, confetti, rice, or fire is prohibited. We will have audience participation kits available to purchase.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
