An Electrifying New Rock Musical Opens This Week: “SHe Said”

January 12, 2026• byMichael Strangeways

There’s a fascinating new piece of musical theater opening this week at Intiman…Jen Ayers “SHe Said” is a rock based autobiographical show created by and starring Ayers backed by a powerhouse group of Seattle musicians. It’s a timely show based on Jen Ayers’ own life and what happened when her partner of many years came out as transgender. SHe Said opens January 14th at the Erickson Theatre on Capitol Hill and runs through February 1st.

A transformational new musical
Songs & Story by Jen Ayers
Directed by Allison Narver

January 14 – February 1, 2026

Erickson Theatre 1425 Harvard Ave

SHe Said is a transformational new musical in the style of Hedwig and the Angry Inch about gender identity and transition. Written by Seattle’s own Jen Ayers, it is based on her personal experience with her partner of over 25 years. Twelve years ago, Jen’s husband came out as transgender, which led to an unexpected journey of self – as individuals, as a couple, and as parents. Jen turned to her piano where SHe Said was born – an ageless and transformational love story that deals with the impact of gender identity on a family and couple who transition together. As told by Jen and an all-star cast of Seattle musicians, this compelling true story changes the way we think about what it means to love.

THE EXPERIENCE:
The production features an immersive night club lounge set up, with a blend of cabaret-style tables including cocktail service (ages 21+), and traditional theater seating options (all ages).

But, not necessarily in that order.
