ABBA’s beloved jukebox musical, “Mamma Mia!” is coming back to town starting tomorrow (Tuesday, March 20, 2012) for a week long visit to The Paramount. Billions of ABBA-philes will be swarming around Pine Street all week, causing traffic jams as they sway to their own inner “Dancing Queen”.
Shockingly, Mr. Strangeways has NEVER seen the stage production, only the movie, so he will be losing his “Mia” cherry tomorrow night…he’s a tad apprehensive. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the music of ABBA, but the book/plot of the musical is pretty stupid. Also: Group singing frightens me. We’ll see how I do…
They also announced the 2012/2013 line up of touring shows coming to The Paramount last week, courtesy of Broadway Across America and as I had predicted, the biggest hit on Broadway right now is heading our way for January of 2013:
The line up for the 2012/2013 KeyBank Broadway at The Paramount Season is as follows:
THE BOOK OF MORMON
Tuesday, January 8 – Sunday, January 20, 2013WAR HORSE
Wednesday, February 13 – Sunday, February 24, 2013FLASHDANCE
Tuesday, April 16 – Sunday, April 21, 2013FELA!
Tuesday, May 28 – Sunday, June 2, 2013SISTER ACT
Tuesday, August 20 – Sunday, August 25, 2013Plus, Special Subscription Option:
WICKED
Wednesday, October 10, – Saturday, November 17, 2012
I”m a bit bummed we’re only getting “Mormon” for 12 days…it will sell out in a heartbeat. “War Horse” is the acclaimed Broadway/West End version of the book that recently became a Steven Spielberg film…instead of real horses, we’ll be getting super cool puppet ones and “War Horse” is a joint presentation with the Seattle Repertory Theatre (but it will perform at The Paramount). “Flashdance” and “Sister Act” are your typical movie to stage musicals so annoyingly popular now but “Fela!” should be something special. It’s definitely a season with something for everyone.
And, “Wicked” fans should be uber delighted…the beloved mega musical is pulling into Seattle for almost a month next fall…expect lots of gay teens skipping up and down Pike Street screeching “Defying Gravity” at all hours of the day and night…
You can buy your FULL SEASON TICKETS right now to guarantee you’ll get to see the shows you HAVE to see (“Mormon”). Single Tickets will go on sale later this year.
