Seattle Womxn Marching Forward, in collaboration with frontline communities, and guided by the work of those who went before us, is thrilled to announce the year’s biggest weekend of action, advocacy, and activism: the anniversary of the Womxn’s March on Seattle and the events honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
The format, activities, and themes for this year’s anniversary weekend were conceived of by a core programming team of diverse frontline activists that represent communities and organizations with long histories of social justice action and movement work. The womxn who helped build this weekend’s program bring deep experience, leadership, and perspective to the most pressing issues in our region. Seattle Womxn Marching Forward is actively collaborating with MLK Day organizers to co-create a weekend of events that helps realize a future of thriving and justice for all.
Together, as we work for a world that benefits everyone, we present Womxn’s March 2019: BUILDING POWER.
On SATURDAY, January 19, we kick off a weekend of building power through community, protest, and activism with a rally. Hear from the region’s most powerful progressive womxn leaders as they speak about the greatest threats and most inspiring triumphs our communities have experienced in the past year.
After the rally, we will march to Seattle Center, where we continue our day of service and learning. At Seattle Center, attend one of several “Activism 101” workshops designed to energize, illuminate, and activate our marchers for the work to come in 2019 and beyond.
ON SUNDAY, January 20, we build power through connection at the second annual Womxn Act on Seattle: a full day of food and supply drives, workshops, lectures, trainings, small groups, panel discussions and community-building events at Hubs and independent locations all around the region. Last year, we organized nearly 100 events, registered 100s of people to vote, and collected ONE TON of food for Food Lifeline. Let’s make this year even better.
ON MONDAY, January 21, we build power by honoring the 14th annual Martin Luther King Jr. march and day of service. Join the Womxn’s March coalition at the MLK Jr. Day justice-oriented workshops and the 37th annual MLK Jr. Day march as a show of solidarity that no one is free until everyone is free.
