It’s 9 Months Away But Seattle Pride Is Seeking Out Nominees For Grand Marshal For 2023 Parade

September 13, 2022• byMichael Strangeways
George Takei and husband Brad in the 2014 Seattle Pride Parade!

It seems a TAD bit early to be seeking community input for an event happening at the end of June 2023 but the early bird gets the worm! And, who doesn’t like a big, juicy worm in their mouth!!!

Blink, blink.

Yes, the folks at Seattle Pride (the parade producing group; not the festival producing group or the other festival producing group or….) need a bit of help from US, the community, for suggestions for a THEME for the 2023 Parade as well as ideas about who to book as a CELEBRITY Grand Marshal. And, while I snark at their early birdness, I should note you actually really have to start planning these things far in advance, especially when it comes to booking famous folk.

Madonna/Cher/Dolly Parton/Harry Styles/Some Random Famous Gay Person isn’t just going to show up at the last minute! These things require a lot of planning and negotiating. Otherwise you end up with some local drag star as your “celebrity”.

Ugh.

You have until September 30th to submit your suggestions at https://seattlepride.typeform.com/to/o6JvfU7O

2023 Seattle Pride Parade Celebrity Grand Marshal Search  Begins with Community Input

Seattle Pride is asking the public for suggestions regarding the next Seattle Pride Parade celebrity grand  marshal and parade theme

SEATTLE 9/8/22 Seattle Pride®, producer of the Seattle Pride Parade and Seattle Pride in the Park, is  looking for community suggestions for the 2023 celebrity grand marshal and parade theme. Seattle  Pride will be accepting the first round of submissions through Sept. 30 on its website at  bit.ly/PrideNominations2023.

“We are asking our community for input so we can provide a celebrity grand marshal and theme that  embodies the Seattle LGBTQIA+ community and reflects everything Pride stands for,” said Seattle Pride  Executive Director Krystal Marx. “Parade organizing is a year-round task, so getting grand marshal and  theme suggestions now will help us get a jump start on Pride Month 2023.”

Seattle Pride has hosted several A-list celebrities as parade grand marshals in years past. Previous  celebrity grand marshals have included George Takei, Macklemore and Jinkx Monsoon. Seattle Pride’s  2022 Pride Month theme was titled Family Reunion, based on the return of the parade after the  pandemic.

“Ideal celebrity grand marshal suggestions will be for somebody who is preferably a member or strong  ally of the LGBTQIA+ community,” said Marx. “The best theme suggestions will embody the LGBTQIA+  community and bring people together.”

Following the 2023 celebrity grand marshal and parade theme selection, the organization will also ask  for suggestions for community grand marshals in the coming months. Community grand marshals are  members or allies of the Seattle LGBTQIA+ community who embody Pride and everything it stands for while working to better our city and its people.
