The 83rd Oscar Nominations are out…and, they’re a tiny bit gay.

Scruffy sperm donor Mark Ruffalo earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination for "The Kids are All Right".

Yep. Oscar season has officially moved to DefCon 2 status as the nominations for the 83rd annual Academy Awards were announced in Hollywood in the wee wee hours of the morning. As usual, there were a few surprises, omissions and additions to the lists of nominees. The lesbian family comedy The Kids are All Right picked up four nominations including Best Picture, Best Actress for Annette Benning (but, no nod for co-star Julianne Moore), Best Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo and Best Original Screenplay for out director Lisa Cholodenko and co-writer Stuart Blumberg. The vaguely lesbionic themed Black Swan garnered five nominations including Best Picture and Best Director for Darren Aronofsky, Best Cinematography and Best Editing, as well as a nomination for lead actress Natalie Portman who remains the front runner to win for Best Actress.

James Franco is your Oscar co-host this year AND a nominee for Best Actor for 127 Hours.

Not gay themed but popular with LGBTQ audiences, the coyly ambiguous about his own sexuality heart throb James Franco was Best Actor nominated for his work in 127 Hours. Franco will also co-host the Academy Awards with non-nominated actress Anne Hathaway on Sunday, February 27.

The King’s Speech led the nomination count with 12, including one for Best Actor front runner Colin Firth. The Coen Brother’s version of True Grit followed with 10 nods including acting accolades for Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn, in the Best Actor category, and young Hailee Steinfeld for Best Supporting Actress (despite the fact she is the lead of the film…) The Social Network and Inception tied at 8 nominations apiece with the big shockers there being the omission of Inception helmer Christopher Nolan from the list of Best Director nominees, but he was nominated for his original screenplay for the film. There was also some shock that Andrew Garfield failed to score a nod for his supporting work in The Social Network. Lead actor Jesse Eisenberg did receive his first ever nomination for his performance in that film as Facebook mogul Mark Zuckerberg.

Also coming away empty handed: the songs from Burlesque, the Cher/Christina Aguilera musical that feared a Golden Globe winning best song in “You Haven’t Heard the Last of Me” written by famed songwriter Diane Warren. The only award the musical has been nominated for in the last couple of days, was Cher’s nod for WORST Supporting Actress at yesterday’s Razzie Award announcement.

To be honest, we’re not that excited about these noms this year (personally, I thought it was a meh year in film) but we are looking forward to the Oscar Parties, especially the Three Dollar Bill/Gay City bash at Cinerama.
