Can We Cure Hep C in 4 Weeks?
October 22, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
For our community meeting at the UW ACTU on Tuesday, Oct 22nd at 5:30 PM, we will be reviewing a study to investigate whether or not we can cure acute hepatitis C (HCV) in 4 weeks.
People who are recently infected with HCV are often considered to have acute HCV.
People with acute HCV have a good chance of being cured of the infection when they are treated with a combination of two drugs within the first 6 months of being infected.
Our presenter for this meeting will be Dr. Shelia Dunaway.
She will be sharing details about an upcoming study we plan to enroll here at the UW ACTU.
The study is titled Glecaprevir/pibrentasvir Fixed-dose Combination Treatment for Acute Hepatitis C Virus Infection (PURGE-C)
We will enroll both people with HCV and HIV, as well as those who only have HCV.
It is being done to see if a shorter course of treatment will be effective if started early in the infection.
In case of failure with this shorter course of treatment, a longer and different treatment regimen for HCV will be offered.
Our meeting will be held on the 2nd Floor of the West Clinic at Harborview Medical Center, down the hall from Madison Clinic.
We’ll provide dinner for you. We can cover parking in the Harborview View Park Garage. Bus tickets are also available.
