Free 2 Be- Day of workshops
July 15, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 5:30 pm
Queer Black Alliance of the South Sound and Living Without Boxes, a project of Gay City, are in collaboration for a 2-day conference centered around the often silenced voices of the transgender and nonconforming black, brown and indigenous people of color in the Pacific Northwest. The goal of this project is to create community and an atmosphere to address the added barriers faced by those in melanated skin as queer, trans, and gender nonconforming people.
This conference will aide in the development of a community of queer and trans by specifically centering the true concerns, needs and action plans of black, brown, and Indigenous voices. To assist in meeting this goal, this event will be an opportunity to connect with the national organizations, Black Trans Advocacy and Transfaith. Bringing these organizations to the Pacific Northwest provides our local community additional resources and support, as well as contact with POC leaders and mentors from around the country.
This conference will also be the first weekend of the 15 days of education, remembrance and celebration for LGBTQ POC here in the Northwest that is being corrdinated by the Center for MultiCultral Health and Emerald City Black Pride.
