HIV, HPV & Cancer in 2019
September 24, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
For our community meeting at the UW ACTU next Tuesday, Sept 24th at 5:30 PM, we will be talking about HIV, HPV and cancer.
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease, infecting at least 75% of sexually active adults at some point in their lifetime.
HPV causes most of the cancers of the anus and cervix, many head & neck cancers, as well as other cancers.
Add HIV into the mix, and things only become more challenging.
Our special guest for this meeting will be Dr. David Aboulafia.
He will share his expertise in this specific area, reviewing with us some of the important studies that the AIDS Malignancy Consortium has done (and is still doing!) that have changed the way in which HIV-positive people with HPV-associated disease are treated.
He will answer your questions about the latest research into the safety and efficacy of new methods of prevention and treatment of anal/cervical cancers, as well as cancer precursors, in people living with HIV.
Together we will discuss how the knowledge gained from this kind of research may be used to develop and test new treatment strategies.
Our meeting will be held on the 2nd Floor of the West Clinic at Harborview Medical Center, down the hall from Madison Clinic.
We’ll provide dinner for you. We can cover parking in the Harborview View Park Garage. Bus tickets are also available.
And you can RSVP for this meeting by replying ton this event page.
