I doubt this would be allowed to happen in the heart land of America, but anything is possible in the bastion of liberal perversion known as Seattle…Tonight, Wednesday April 13, the Madison Pub is hosting the Elvis Tribute Show to benefit the Seattle United Soccer League. Soccer players will be in attendance selling Jell-O shots before and after the show, which starts at 7:30pm. The poster doesn’t give a CLUE as to what is included in the tribute…Elvis impersonators? Drag Elvises? El Vez? It’s all a big mystery, but it sounds like fun and it’s a good cause and we should all encourage Madison Pub to host more events, so head on down and swivel your hips and give’em your best Elvis snarl…or, go dressed up as Priscilla circa 1967.
Fun Elvis Fact: His hugely popular hit song, “Jailhouse Rock” by the legendary music writers, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller might have some homo-centric lyrics:
Number forty-seven said to number three:
You’re the cutest jailbird I ever did see.
I sure would be delighted with your company,
Come on and do the jailhouse rock with me.Shifty henry said to bugs, for heavens sake,
No ones lookin, nows our chance to make a break.
Bugsy turned to shifty and he said, nix nix,
I wanna stick around a while and get my kicks.
Hardcore Elvis fans are not surprisingly annoyed by any implication the King might be singing about a little same-sex Jailhouse buggery, but hey, that’s what happens in the Big House…
Fun Elvis Fact #2: There are some vague rumors that the King might have been “very close” to actor Nick Adams, who was alleged to be bisexual (though there’s not a ton of factual data to back that up either). Adams co-starred with James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, earned an Oscar nomination for Twilight of Honor, starred as The Rebel on TV and might be most beloved for his Toho produced Japanese monster films of the 1960’s. Nick Adams died under mysterious circumstances in 1967 (drug overdose or was it MURDER!) The Rumor Mill has been buzzing about him ever sense. Did he and Elvis do the “jailhouse rock” together?
