Three Dollar Bill’s Outdoor Cinema Series, “Rock and Roll Fantasy” starts this coming Friday, July 29 with XANADU!

July 26, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

We’re praying for some heat but bring your blankie and LAYERS of clothing to Cal Anderson Park this Friday, July 29 around dusk, aka 8:30ish (or earlier if you want prime seating) for the season opener of Three Dollar Bill’s Outdoor Cinema Series. This year’s theme is “Rock and Roll Fantasy” and features beloved films with musical themes from the 1980’s and the opening film of the series is the Grandmammy of all Eighties Musicals: XANADU starring pop queen, Olivia Newton-John! Yes, it’s time to return to that magical place, a roller disco that alternately plays pop songs, ELO and Big Band favorites, a musical match made in movie heaven…or, hell depending on how you look at it.

There’ll be some snacks for sale and lawnchairs for rental but you’re also encouraged to bring your own food/seating (and no booze…not allowed in public) and come early to enjoy pre-show music from 12 Hr Notice DJ’s Recess, Levi Clark+Joe Bellingham. (And, subsequent film screenings will feature DIFFERENT local dj’s).

Oh, yeah, and it’s FREE courtesy of series sponsor Sound Transit.

I’m in a foul mood today; let’s watch the Xanadu closing number and perk up and pretend it’s actually summer and it’s this coming Friday where we can enjoy the entire film!
