Balagan celebrates/skewers Election Season…and, “Spring Awakening” returns

April 2, 2012• bySeattle Gay Scene

The cast of Death Sex 3: Election Season! at The Balagan

The Balagan Theatre has two treats in store for April at its new home at the Erickson Theatre Off Broadway…and, they’re both sexy.

First up, their third installment of their “Death Sex” series of short plays:

What do you get when you put together a bunch of slightly-warped local writers, a cast of insanely funny actors, and an election season just ripe for the mocking? Death Sex 3: Election Season: Balagan Theatre’s third annual repertory festival of ten-minute comedies that explore death, sex, and a timely topic: election season.
Performances are April 5-7 & 12-14, 2012, Thursday at 8 p.m. and Friday/Saturday at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tickets start at $15 and are available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/230951.
Written by local authors, and directed and performed by local artists, the nine comedies are:
     “DSR” by Eric Lane Barnes
     “Slim Pickings” by Lenore Bensinger
     “Amphrite” by Kelleen Conway Blanchard
     “The Seeping” by Emily Conbere
“Blood in the Water” by Nik Doner
     “Election” by Jesse Lee Keeter
     “Re/Count” by Ben McFadden
     “Sex Life” by Wayne Rawley
“Mitt Romney Meets the Sphinx” by Matt Smith
Please note: This production contains some adult content, including explicit language and sexual references; audience members must be at least 16 years old.

After that show closes, it’s the return of their hit production of “Spring Awakening” the local premiere of the sexy Broadway musical about horny, depressed German kids singing rock n roll. It debuted in January for a very successful two week run, (check out my review HERE) and returns with a slight change in cast…lead actors Brian Earp and Diana Huey are working on new productions and have been replaced by Brian Gula and Tori Gresham. But, the rest of the cast is back, including those scene stealers, Jerick Hoffer and Kirsten deLohr Helland. Tickets available at Brown Paper Tickets.

The return engagement is also only around for two weeks, so don’t dawdle in getting your tickets to this HOT, HOT show…And, our country cousins will get a chance to check it out, too. Balagan’s production will hit the road north to our neighbors in Skagit County for a weekend of performances at the gorgeous Lincoln Theatre in Mount Vernon for four performances, May 4-6, 2012. Get tickets for those shows, HERE.
