It’s “Spring Thaw” Weekend…and, check out the “Team of Heroes” at Annex

April 20, 2012• bySeattle Gay Scene

There be BEARS all over the Hill this weekend, ’cause it’s the Northwest Bears annual “Spring Thaw”. Bop over to their webpage for a full list of grizzly events, including the big Furnace Party at The Cuff on Saturday. And, remember to be very careful when feeding the Bears…they are VERY hungry this time of year.

If you prefer men (and women) in tights, then check out the opening weekend of the new show at The Annex Theatre…“Team of Heroes: Behind Closed Doors” is apparently a PRE-quel to last year’s hit “TOH” show. It runs weekends through May 19, 2012 and here’s a teaser of what to expect:

The gleaming teeth and bulging muscles of America’s preeminent superheroes hide a dirty past and a fractured present.
HOW DID MADAME MAYHEM AND THE CAP’N GET THEIR POWERS?
IS MISS DIXIE AS SWEET AS SHE SEEMS?
WILL SHOCKWAVE’S MOVIE CAREER TAKE OFF?
AND HOW DO GORILLAS FIT INTO ALL THIS?
The same creative team that brought you Annex Theatre’s surprise hit Alecto: Issue #1, returns with another spandex-clad tale of media manipulation and super-heroics.
NEW PLOTS! NEW VILLAINS! NEW HEROES!

Here’s some entertainment options for Friday and check out the entire Weekend Calendar HERE and the Main Calendar THERE!

CATS @ Paramount. The longest running, most popular, North American Touring Production in history!

A Language of their Own @ Richard Hugo House. The lyrical modern classic about men in love is an exploration of the nature of desire, sexuality, stereotypes and self-definition through the relationships of the four gay characters, three Asian and one Caucasian.

Solo Performance Festival (SPF) @ Theatre Off Jackson in the I.D. has two amazing shows: “Funny Stories” with James Judd, and Eleanor O’Brien’s “Good Girls’ Guide: Dominatrix for Dummies”.

Team of Heroes: Behind Closed Doors @ Annex Theatre. The gleaming teeth and bulging muscles of America’s preeminent superheroes hide a dirty past and a fractured present 8pm.

Kyle Abraham Live! The Realest MC @ On the Boards. The young choreographer who has been making waves for his fresh approach to choreography that mixes intense physicality with theatricality. Out Magazine calls him “The best and brightest creative talent to emerge in New York City in the age of Obama.”

Dina Martina: Ample Wattage @ Rebar. Promises to be an excruciatingly hilarious yet totally indescribable evening of entertainment that assaults the senses like no other 8pm, $20-$25. 21+

Apollo & Carmina @ Pacific Northwest Ballet. Apollo, George Balanchine’s oldest surviving ballet, was his first international success as well as the start of his remarkable collaboration with Igor Stravinsky. In the ballet, Apollo – described by Balanchine as “a wild, half-human youth who acquires nobility through art” – is instructed by three muses: Terpsichore, muse of dance and song; Polyhymnia, muse of mime; and Calliope, muse of poetry 7:30pm.

Spring Awakening @ Balagan Theatre. The Tony Award-winning rock musical comes (back) to Seattle. Set in late 1890s Germany, Spring follows a group of teenagers as they discover and explore their minds, bodies, and passions in the journey through adolescence to adulthood…sometimes to disastrous consequence.

Rain Country Dance @ Cuff Complex. Lesson: Beg-Plus Two-Step + review of Tease 7pm-11pm. 21+

Cuff Complex: HiNRG Dancing with DJ Almond Brown 11pm-3am, $5. 21+

Where the Wild Things Are @ Lobby Bar. Ruckus returns with a night of boys, body paint, and drinks that will have you letting your animal instincts take over with DJ Disco Vinnie 10pm-Midnight. 21+

HANG 5 @ The Eagle with DJ Mark Gentile MIxing it up! 9pm-3am. 21+

Neighbours: Ultimate Dance Party with DJ Richard J Dalton 10pm-4am. 21+ (18+ after 2am)

Lily Armani’s Show & Tell @ Neighbours Nightclub 8:30pm, $10. 21+
