The Pike Street men’s bath house, Club Z seems to be continuing their string of bad luck. In two separate incidents, occurring in September and November of 2011, two men passed away in their steam room. Early this morning, Sunday, April 8, 2012 police were called to the bath house in response to a report that a man had been stabbed. From the police report:
On April 8th, at about 3:15 am, West Precinct officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a club in the 1100 Block of Pike Street. The victim suffered non life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed in the leg and the cheek by a suspect he had just met. The suspect stabbed the victim for an unknown reason and then fled on foot. Officers located the suspect in the south end of Freeway Park and took him into custody after he was positively identified. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of his non life-threatening injuries. The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.
The Capitol Hill Seattle blog has done some follow up on the suspect:
9:04AM – UPDATE – According to court records, the suspect is a 25-year-old man registered as a sex offender with King County. He was busted for voyeurism in 2005 and spent nearly a year in jail after assaulting a lawyer during his hearing on another assault charge in 2010.
VOYEURISM?!?!?! That’s such an odd charge, being a “Peeping Tom”…and, if the suspect is now 25 and those charges happened 7 years ago, that means he was only 18 or so when those charges happened. And, as a Capitol Hill resident, I’m frequently guilty of a little voyeurism…my neighbor across the alley is always running around in a towel and humping his lady friend on the couch and he DOESN’T draw the blinds…and, I’m not going to turn off the “free show” and draw my blinds to protect his lack of modesty…
Anyway, I digress. We hope the person who got stabbed is ok and we hope Club Z’s string of bad luck ends soon. Since Tribe/Basic Plumbing closed earlier this year, Seattle is down to only two men’s bath houses. If Club Z should close that would mean Steamworks would be the only game in town and a little friendly competition is what keeps businesses on their toes.
(And, I know what the prudes are thinking: “Good! Close all the bath houses! They are disgusting!” But, that’s not everyones opinion…not every gay on the planet is a “I’m gonna settle down with a husbear, a mortgage and a black lab in West Seattle!” kind of gay. Expressing your sexuality THROUGH sex is part of being homosexual. Not everyone is monogamous and not everyone is into “vanilla” sex. Bath houses provide a valuable service; otherwise many of the people who go to bath houses might be forced into public cruising…and, if you’re a prude, wouldn’t you prefer the “pervs” get pervy in a building designed for that purpose rather than the azalea bushes in your favorite park?)
