Mr. Strangeways is the wrong person to write about PAX, the huge gaming con which was born in 2004 in Bellevue and has grown bigger and bigger each year…he’s simply not much of a gamer. (He is, however, a playah…)
But, the Gaymers of the world need to be informed, as well as those who adore preying on Gaymers…who doesn’t appreciate the sight of a cute gay gamer getting all hot and bothered as he plays with his Wii Wii?
PAX Prime opens Friday, August 31 at the Washington State Convention Center and those so inclined can get tix and info over at their website. (UPDATE: Not anymore…it’s SOLD OUT!!!!) Gaymers might already be aware that there are some events geared to the queerly inclined, including a “Queers in Gaming” panel on Saturday at 3:30pm (but you must be a ticketed guest of the con to attend…)
QUEERS IN GAMING
The presence of queer content in gaming and other media has been a hot button topic recently that reflects a conflict in our wider culture. Homophobia and bullying in games are as old as online gaming, but is this a small group of Xbox Live trolls or is there a wider problem? In this panel we will discuss the homophobia encountered by gaymers and queer geeks as well as how to stand up to it by building strong LGBTQ geek communities. Presented by Queer Geek!Panelists are Jeremy Crawford from D&D, James Portnow from Extra Credits, Ashley Cook from GFBRobot, Boris Erickson from Xbox Live and Gwen Yeh from ArenaNet.
Please note that this event is only for PAX attendees.
There’s also a party on Friday night at Gamma Ray Games at 501 East Pine St called “PAX Prime Pink Party”:
On Friday, August 31st at 6:00pm, Queer Geek! presents a night of gayming fun at the new Raygun Lounge, the café affiliated with Gamma Ray Games. This will be right after the “Represent! Gayming’s Past, Present and Future” panel in the Raven Theater at 6:00p put on by Gaymism.com. Then, afterward, come to the party! You DO NOT need to be a PAX attendee to join in the fun! Party-goers are encouraged to bring their friends, favorite board games, card games or handhelds.
Don’t miss our official panel at PAX on Saturday “Queers in Gaming”, which those of you attending PAX will not want to miss. For more information on that panel, check out:
