Saturday: Get “Stiffed”…Check Out “Paris”…Rock Out At “These Streets”

Whatcha want to do tonight? It’s SATURDAY!!!!!

You could go to “Stiffed” at Pony with resident DJ Pavone and very special guest DJ Sergio Fedasz from “San FranDISCO” and gogo boys Adaam and Kerry. We met DJ Sergio the other night and he is ADORABLE! Not that that is important when it comes to DJing, but it doesn’t hurt…if their skillz ain’t up to it, you can always gaze adoringly at them. Fortunately, Mr. Fedasz HAS the skillz…check out his credentials:

Sergio Fedasz has become something of a San Francisco institution since starting his out-of-control Go BANG! more than four years ago. He started DJing at KALX 90.7, the Bay Area’s best and most storied radio station, at the end of last century (1997 to be exact), and in 2010 was voted San Francisco’s best DJ by readers of SF Weekly. He creates amazing edits of vintage disco tracks with Allen Craig as The SyntheTigers, and they have begun producing original house music (with disco flourishes) released on Moulton Music. Sergio is also a recurring guest at Robin Malone Simmons’ Odyssey after-hours affairs, DJs every Friday at Cafe Flore in The Castro, DJs regularly on KALX, and can be found DJing throughout the Bay Area at myriad club events.

In 2005, he was chosen as the New Times (SF Weekly/East Bay Express) “DJ Breakthrough” and was invited to play at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami during the Winter Music Conference. In 2006, he was awarded the title of the SF Weekly’s 2006 Music Awards “Best DJ.” Most recently, he was voted BEST DJ in SF Weekly’s 2010 Reader’s Poll! He was also very honored to be invited to represent Go BANG! at the 2011 & 2012 San Francisco Pride festivities, and to DJ at their VIP party in the rotunda of City Hall.

If you adore the film “Paris is Burning!” and good causes and fun parties, then perhaps you should check out this evening’s screening of the classic documentary by Jennie Livingston at Black Coffee Co-op, 501 East Pine (the former home of Travelers). The screening starts at 7:30pm and it’s hosted by Aleksa Manila and presented by GLITUR and QBC and if you don’t know who they are:

QBC (Queer Black Cross) helps fund queer prisoners such as CeCe McDonald, Amazon and Catarina, and countless others who are incarcerated often just for trying to survive or defend themselves from queer bashers.

GLITUR is the Grand Legion of Incendiary and Tenacious Unicorn Revolutionaries.

After the screening, DJ Tony Burns, along with “Cool” Avery Friday and General Meow will be playin the hitz, and makin things reaL on the dance floor. They will also be playin some originals, Blind Photographers style! Come ready to get down, and show up dressed as your favorite ball category.

As for Miss Manila, she’s a busy bee…she’s also working “Night FantASIA” the 14th annual par-tay celebrating the queer Asian community…it’s at Nijo Sushi Bar, 83 Spring Street near the downtown waterfront, starting at 9pm. Here’s some more info:

As for Mr. Strangeways, he’s going to go check out the new theater piece, “These Streets” at ACT…it’s the new rock n’ roll/grunge Riot Grrrl play with music created by local actors and musicians. Here’s more poo:

These Streets, a rock ‘n’ roll story inspired by the women rock musicians of Seattle’s grunge years. Presented as a powerful and critical addendum to history, These Streets is a fictional story based on over 45 interviews conducted with and about the many women who were integral to the Seattle music scene of the late 1980s to early 1990s, but who have been overshadowed by the more familiar bands and retrospectives. Presented in cooperation with ACT Theatre’s Central Heating Lab, the show will run for 12 performances from February 21 through March 10, Thursday – Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in ACT’s Falls Theatre.

Spearheaded and written by rock guitarist, Gretta Harley (faculty member at Cornish College of the Arts; guitarist and band member of the era, including Maxi Badd), Sarah Rudinoff (actress, singer, writer and Stranger Genius Award recipient); and Elizabeth Kenny (playwright and performer, “Sick”), These Streets is a gritty, funny and powerful fictional story where the characters’ past and present lives collide with their past and present music. The show is filled with music from the era including songs from 66 Saints, 7 Year Bitch, Bell, Capping Day, Faster Tiger, The Gits, Hammerbox, Kristen Barry, and Maxi Badd. There are also a few original songs in the show written by Harley and Rudinoff who collaborate as songwriters with their band We Are Golden. The live music score will be led by Harley, with a band that includes Ron Nine (Love Battery), Fiia McGann (Goodness), and Mitch Ebert (Landlord’s Daughter).

The cast includes both established Seattle performers and up-and-coming musicians and actors. Each character is played by two actors; one representing their younger years from 1989-1994 and the other in their present age, today in Seattle.
