Lord, have mercy!

Our friend Cassidy alerted us to this AMAZING video starring theater actor Tituss Burgess performing the iconic “And I Am Telling You, I’m Not Going” from “Dreamgirls” for the Broadway Backwards fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS held in NYC last week. Broadway Cares is best known for their very zexy annual fundraiser, “Broadway Bares”, which features dozens of Broadways gypsies and stars performing some very raunchy burlesque numbers to raise funds for HIV/AIDS research and treatment.

Broadway Backwards was an event featuring performers in sex reversed roles…men singing classic songs meant for female singers and women singing songs meant for male performers. Last weeks event raised over $340k and featured name performers like Brian Stokes Mitchell, Karen Ziemba, Stephanie J. Block and Mr. Burgess who brought the house down with his take on “I Am Telling You…” Here’s more info on his performance.

This year’s Broadway Backwards included a roof-raising rendition of “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going,” performed by Tituss Burgess. To set up this iconic song, made famous onstage by Jennifer Holiday and on film by Jennifer Hudson, Burgess was joined by Jamie Cepero, Steven Cutts, Miles Johnson, Rashad Naylor, Brandon Pearson and Dennis Stowe as Lorelle, James Thunder Earley, Curtis, Michelle, CC and Deena, respectively.

Here’s a highlight reel of other performances from the event:

And, a sneak peek at “Broadway Bares 23” happening June 23, 2013 in NYC…it sells out every year. For obvious reasons.

Beefcake. Cheesecake. Amazing cause.
