The Greater Seattle Business Association’s goal is to promote LGBTQ businesses and professionals in the city but they also like to give away money…to deserving students.
The 2013 GSBA Scholarship Awards Dinner is Friday, May 17 at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront, 2100 Alaskan Way and a few tickets are still available. The group has been awarding scholarships to LGBTQ students for the last 23 years, giving out over $1.5 million. This year the GSBA will disperse $200,000 to scholars “who exhibit leadership potential, demonstrate strong academic abilities, and who are actively involved in school and community organizations. ”
From the GSBA:
GSBA understands that today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders and is committed to supporting our community’s future leaders by providing financial resources, role-models and hope to oustanding LGBTQA students.
The keynote speaker for this year’s event will be Kate Starbird, former professional basketball player for the Seattle Reign & Seattle Storm, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington’s Department of Human Centered Design and Engineering. The emcee will be former KING 5 reporter Bernard Choi.
