Just in time for the fourth cycle in the Ring extravaganza at Seattle Opera, theater entrepreneurs Richard Ziman and Leslie Law have decided to stage a concert version of the beloved spoof, Das Barbecϋ, penned by local composer extraordinaire Scott Warrender.
You don’t need to know a thing about the composer Richard Wagner, nor about his Ring Cycle, nor even about opera! You just need to enjoy a Texas family and a shot-gun double wedding, feuding families and a lot of funny songs. With music direction by the talented Mark Rabe, and staged in the select new theatrical venue, West of Lenin, in downtown Fremont, the five cast members include several who have participated in fully staged productions here in town.
Richard Ziman directs, and performed in the most recent production (2009) at ACT Theatre. Billie Wildrick and Joshua Carter also showed their abilities to morph into multiple wacky characters in that production. Other talent includes Leslie Law, John Patrick Lowrie and Jayne Muirhead. Band members are Eric Chappele, Ed Littlefield, Dave Pascal, and Mark Rabe.
For tickets, go to http://dasbarbecuconcert.brownpapertickets.com/. Extended performances are Monday and Thursday only, so get on the stick, y’all, double quick! They sold out and it’s a small house!
