Apparently, Pine Streets beloved and vaguely New Orleans-y balconied nightclub THE CAPITOL CLUB has been for sale for awhile and allegedly, that sale has gone through and THE CC is closing up this weekend. Level Up, the weekly Thursday night comedy show at The Capitol Club, 414 East Pine, announced their final performance for this coming Thursday, September 12:
Children of the Atom have been presenting LEVEL UP! at our favorite cocktail joint in town, The Capitol Club, for the past two years. Sadly, the bar is changing ownership this week and our time here will be coming to a close. If you’ve ever or never been to the show, please join us on September 12 for what will surely be a very memorable, hilarious and bittersweet VERY LAST LEVEL UP! at The Capitol Club!!
After some brilliant journalistic work (which largely consisted of posting on my Facebook wall: “Hey, anyone know anything about The Capitol Club closing?”) we’ve heard through the grapevine that the club has been sold, AND, it IS closing up shop as “The Capitol Club”, AND, a new business will be opening up very soon.
Obviously fans of The Capitol Club are going to be rightfully distraught about this closing of the Casbah influenced tapas restaurant and lounge that has been a Pine Street fixture since 1997. It’s also sad for Seattle’s LGBTQ community; while never an out and out gay establishment, The Capitol Club has always welcomed a queer clientele and featured numerous events, parties and fundraisers involving the gay community. They’ll be sadly missed by everyone. But, the good news is: the business moving into that space is a great fit for the location. And, also involves delicious things involving your mouth…
The deal for the new ownership is pending and will be announced shortly. More as it develops.
