We don’t care if you ride a Seattle/King County Metro bus every day or once a week or hardly at all or NEVER, it still behooves you to vote YES on Proposition 1 in this month’s election.
WHY?
Because if you don’t, through no fault of their own (blame Washington State legislators, especially Republicans and the hicks from the sticks), Metro will face massive budget cuts and be forced to eliminate bus routes and condense others, impacting thousands of people and their need for cheap, safe, reliable transportation.
And, since it’s an “off season/non-sexy” election, many folks DON’T BOTHER TO VOTE, especially younger ones who tend to be more liberal and supportive of issues that result in any kind of tax hike. (Yes, to save Metro, car tabs will have to go up a bit…yes, that sucks. The alternative is fewer buses meaning MORE people in cars meaning MORE traffic, MORE gridlock, LESS parking, etc….)
The Stranger Election Control Board spells it all out for you in a lovely post over at that (mostly) excellent publication. They’ll get far more specific about this issue than we can, since we have to devote the majority of our time writing about Drag Queens, Muscle Sluts, and making sure we meet our quota of annoying people including most potential advertisers.
Where EVER you get your info on this important cause, (SaveOurMetro.Org and TranportationChoices.Org are other places to obtain the facts…) you HAVE to VOTE this month and VOTE YES ON PROP 1!
(Or, all of us po’ bus riding folk will rise up and start an ugly revolution which will end with the Rich being eaten.)
