Oh, that wacky Cherdonna….she’s ALWAYS up to some sort of kooky shenanigans!
Seattle’s favorite danse artiste and bio drag queen, the one and only CHERDONNA SHINATRA has a couple interesting gigs lined up, one happening today (Wednesday, July 15) and the other down the road a bit, next Wednesday the 22nd.
Today, Cherdonna will be washing cars as part of the Yellow Fish Epic Durational Performance Festival, a unique event created and curated by Seattle artist Alice Gosti where other local Pacific Northwest artists will stage and create works lasting from one to 48 hours.
“Inspired by Marina Abramovic, Doug Aitken, Matthew Barney, Gina Pane, Yves Klein, Jan Fabre, Salt Horse’s 12-hour play and others, I have been thinking for a while about what it would do to this artistic community to experience a Durational Performance Event—by which I mean performances, actions or re-actions that last for a minimum of an hour and a maximum of 48 hours, which do not necessarily require the constant attention of an audience and may not require an audience at all.” -Alice Gosti
Our Lovely Cherdonna will be participating in two events. Today’s car wash, which happens from 6pm to 10pm at 10 Degrees, 1312 E. Union Street. (10 Degrees is an arts space next to Oola Distillery and Zoe; across the street from Skillet and around the corner from Diesel).
What can you expect from tonight’s performance?
Cherdonna first performance is: Cherdonna washes your car. This is a task, a dance, a score. This is an examination. This is an experiment in clean vs. dirty. This is america; cars, bikini’s, wet t-shirts, wet hair, a wet woman, excess, consumerism, sex, labor, entertainment, spectacle and radical art making. www.cherdonna.com
We’re guessing it’s art but it’ll also be pretty funny since it’s Cherdonna. Even when she’s “serious” she’s still comic. PLUS, we heard she’ll have a couple hot male dancers (rumored: Faggedy Randy) on hand as well.
If car washing performance art ain’t your thing, you can wait a week and check out “Slow Dances With Cherdonna” happening next Wednesday, July 22 from 1:30 pm to 6 pm at the Hedreen Gallery,901 12th Ave (12th & Marion).
This performance is a 4.5 hour filmed improvisational score titled: Slow dances with Cherdonna. Come by the gallery and have a slow dance with Cherdonna, we will dip our feet in cake and create a live painting that will hang in the Gallery. No appointment needed.
