Redmond Is Ready For Their First Pride Celebration This Saturday!

August 30, 2022• byMichael Strangeways

More and more communities are organizing LGBTQ+ Pride events every year and this week we have a big new addtion to the Puget Sound/Seattle Metro Area Pride Family….it’s eastside suburb REDMOND, the homebase for Microsoft ready to stage their very first LGBTQ+ Pride event this Saturday, September 3rd from 1pm to 4pm.

It’ll take place at their downtown park area at 16101 NE Redmond Way and feature local queer artists and performers on their stage plus booths featuring local organizations and businesses. There will be numerous food/drink options within walking distance as well with many local venues offering special Pride Day specials.

Founder Axton Burton explains why they thought it time for Redmond to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride:

“In recent years, we have seen the city of Redmond expand and grow unprecedentedly, attracting more diverse and inclusive new residents from our LGBTQ+ community. Unfortunately, we continue to be victims of hate. Many have been attacked for being gay, by people on the street and often we feel unwelcome and unsafe; but that’s an old Redmond. The new Redmond is our flags hanging from balconies and windows all across Redmond, stores putting up their inclusive flags; that is the Redmond we have fallen in love with.

We are the city of the future, where we can live among nature while preserving and enjoying it, where different cultures exchange traditions, and where home is a safe and celebratory space for all. We feel proud to live and love in Redmond, and we must highlight the marvelous work being done by our community close to home to tell others that everyone is welcome here.

Twenty years from now, we will look back at Redmond’s first Pride event and honor those who gave us their support during our inaugural pride event to pave the way for a tradition of celebrating love and diversity on the Eastside.“

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
