Arty: “I Can Do Anything But Focus” Show At Vermillion

January 3, 2024• byMichael Strangeways

It’s a New Year and we just know one of your New Year’s Resolutions was to get out and experience more ART (and maybe a tad less booze, dope, and processed cheese products…) SO, maybe it’s a good thing that Vermillion Art Gallery and Bar, 1508 11th Avenue on Capitol Hill, is hosting a terrific multimedia show from multi-tasking, multi-disciplinary artist Jordan Christianson. It has the very wonderful title of “I CAN DO ANYTHING BUT FOCUS” (story of our lives…) and it’s an explosion of all things dear to Jordan’s arty heart including fashion, theater and night life.

The show opens Thursday, January 4th, but there’ll be a big party on Thursday, January 11th as part of the monthly Capitol Hill Art Walk from 6pm to 9pm. You have until January 27th to check it out!

MORE skinny:

I CAN DO ANYTHING BUT FOCUS
A multimedia show by someone who has too many ideas, and too many ways to realize them.

Have you ever had an idea that you thought was worth something, but couldn’t decide the best way to execute it? How many iterations would it take til you get to the soft, chewy center? In the third iteration of this show, this month, Jordan brings you on an experimental journey through his brain by taking a single motif and investigating the many ways an idea can either come to life, or be left to die on the vine.

A multidisciplinary Artist, Designer, Curator, Producer, and sufferer of late-night zoomies, Jordan’s work has been featured internationally in museums, on shelves, stages, pages, and screens. You may know him as a Co-Founder, Co-Curator, and Participant in various art installations and exhibits like IMMINENT MODE, the other half of the dynamic duo that is PINK HALLOWEEN, custom handbag and accessory maker Jonquil & Mr Black, Costumer for RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants, or simply that guy who looks like he lept out of an Edward Gorey illustration.

From bespoke garments for the performance and nightlife industry to product design for entertainment retail, his inability to focus on one discipline has taken him on an amazing adventure that hasn’t even started yet, and he invites you to come along for the ride!

* IDEAS NOT INCLUDED: LEGO set, 3D print, rotocast, blown glass, counted cross-stitch, haute couture ballgown, paper quilling, cast resin, polymer clay, millefiori, whittled wood, poured acrylic, spirograph, neon sculpture, ice sculpture, paper craft, soft vinyl, painted silk, batik, beaded tapestry, tooled leather, linocut, block-printed, etched glass, cut crystal, ribbon embroidery, lapidary, stained glass, wool felted, pressed flowers, wax cast, macrame, millinery, crochet, silversmithing, encaustic, melted wax, papier-mâché, assemblage, straw marquetry, Venetian plaster fresco, porcelain, faux scrimshaw, bobbin lace, or free-standing lace. Next time.

But, not necessarily in that order.
