Auntie Mame is one of our Goddesses!
The divine creation of novelist/humorist Patrick Dennis (aka Edward Everett Tanner III) the Queen of Madcap Shenanigans has been delighting fans in one of its many incarnations: original novel, play, film of play, sequel book, musical, and “so hideous, it’s wonderful” film version of musical, for the last 60 years or so. The campier than thou antics of Mame Dennis Burnside have captivated and motivated multiple generations of LGBTQ folk as well…she’s been a role model since the Eisenhower Administration!
The divine folks at Seattle’s own queer film collective, Three Dollar Bill Cinema recognize and honor the power of Madame Mame. For the last 39 years they’ve been screening the beloved original film for the delight of their fans (and their coffers) with holiday screenings of the classic. This year the “Auntie Mame” screening is happening Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the AMC Pacific Place Cinemas. The screening starts at 7:30pm but if you get there at 6:15pm, you can party with them at the cinema with pre-show goodies. You are strongly encouraged to pre-purchase your tickets…go HERE to do so!
Three Dollar Bill has also firmed up some upcoming VIP dates for 2014. They’re bringing back their popular Oscar Party on Sunday, March 2, 2014 and their huge annual gala/auction is set for April 4, 2014 with the name/theme of “South Pacific”. Much more info on both events coming soon.
For fans of transgender themed films, the very popular TRANSLATIONS FILM FESTIVAL one of the few film festivals focusing on films by and for the transgendered community is set for May 8-11, 2014.
Smart people will mark their calendars for ALL those events….DO IT! Don’t be a suckah and starve to death because they forgot that life (and cinema) are a banquet!
