There’s a beautifully shot and fascinating film playing at the 2012 Seattle International Film Festival and it’s making its World Premiere TONIGHT, Thursday, May 24 at the Egyptian Theater on Capitol Hill. “Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean”is writer/director Matthew Mishory’s dreamy take on the life of the iconic actor and while based on true events, the film also delves into the mystery about Dean’s life and his rather liquid sexuality. Featuring some luscious high contrast black & white photography (but, also some color) and a tone that is both contemporary but reverent of classical filming styles, “Joshua Tree 1951” is a noiresque look at the quest of fame and the price one pays to achieve it. It’s a decadently gorgeous film with an equally attractive cast including James Preston (TV’s “The Gates”) as the enigmatic Dean.
The crew and cast of “Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean” are naturally a bit thrilled about the world premiere of their film in Seattle and a large chunk of them are in town for the screenings. Director Matthew Mishory, actor/producer Edward Singletary, Jr., actors James Preston, Dan Glenn, and Dalilah Rain, producers Randall Walk and Robert Zimmer, Jr., executive producers Jay Xudan and Lauren Cribb Gropp, cinematographer Michael Marius Pessah, and editor Chris Kirkpatrick are all scheduled to attend tonight’s screening with a Q&A session afterward. The film will reprise on Friday, May 24th at the Harvard Exit. Tickets for BOTH screenings are available HERE.
Those going to tonight’s opening can also attend the After Party at Lobby Bar starting at 9pm. Meet the cast/crew and congratulate them on a job well done. “Joshua Tree 1951” is an impressive film…not to mention, sexy as hell.
