Emerald City Kiki Sessions
August 12, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Emerald City Kiki Sessions is a FREE bi-weekly gathering and safe space for the Black and Brown LGBTQ2S+ community. Hosted by PNW Ballroom leader Android Allure (Father of the House of Monet) this space was created in order to simultaneously build community and continue the growth of the PNW ballroom scene.
Here you will learn about the history of ballroom culture, ballroom etiquette, category breakdown (i.e. vogue, runway, face, sex siren, etc.) and more. You will also have a chance to meet local Ballroom Houses, community leaders, and build stronger bonds with friends and community.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and ableism will NOT be tolerated in this space.
This space is created SPECIFICALLY for the Black and Brown LGBTQ2S+ community. If you do not identify as such, please know you are welcome but be mindful that you are a GUEST and ALLY in this space.
Ballroom culture emerged in the 1930s and 40s in New York City, birthed by the Black and Latinx LGBTQ2S+ community who were excluded from the pageant world of white America. The development of the Ballroom scene created safe and inclusive spaces for these communities to explore and experience life styles from which they were excluded due to systemic oppression.
