Da Bears are waking up from their hibernation: “Spring Thaw 2011” is almost upon us!

March 30, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

One of the MANY reason to attend NW Bears "Spring Thaw XVII" and the SWEAT Party at The Baltic Room, Sun. April 10...

Of course that’s nonsense…anyone with half an eye can see that Seattle’s Bear community is VERY active during our damp and chilly Winter. But Bears are programmed to get their funk on once the daffodils start blooming and the sun starts setting AFTER 6pm so it’s only natural they celebrate the new season with their annual event weekend known as “Spring Thaw”. And, this year’s Spring Thaw XVII looks to be bigger and better than ever with multiple events that begin next Thursday, April 7 and conclude on Sunday, April 10 with SWEAT Dance Party at The Baltic Room put on by the Masters of Seattle Dance/Music Events, Two Knights Productions and starring DJ George Delmar! Tickets are available HERE!

Put on by the friendly grizzlies, polars and cubs at Northwest Bears, a number of events and packages for the weekend are available with the host hotel being the Crowne Plaza at 6th & Seneca for the benefit of out of town guests. The frivolity starts next Thursday with a pizza bash at Piecora’s and BEAReoke at The Cuff Complex, continues Friday the 8th with tons of events including a pool party and UnderBear at The Seattle Eagle, kicks off into high gear with even more events on Saturday the 9th that culminates in the Furnace Dance Party at The Cuff Complex and wraps up on Sunday with the closing jewel, SWEAT at The Baltic Room.

SWEAT, the longest running dance for the ‘bear community and beyond’ is coming to Seattle as part of the Northwest Bears annual SpringThaw event Sunday April 10 at the Baltic Room.  Originally conceived and produced by Harry ‘Castrobear’ Lit, who is also the founder of Lazy Bear Weekend, one of the largest bear-oriented fundraising events in the country, SWEAT, has been a centerpiece of LGBT events in Chicago, Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Springs, San Francisco and Los Angeles for the past 12 years.  In Seattle, SWEAT has also been an integral part of the annual Northern Xposure fundraising event for the past 6 years.

This year, the Northwest Bears are bringing SWEAT to their annual Spring Thaw…as the official closing night event, Sunday April 10 from 5pm to Midnight at the Baltic Room.  Admission is just 2 bucks for Spring Thaw pass holders and only 5 bucks without and features DJ George Delmar (GRIND, Late Night Sin).

AND, also mark your calendars and get your tickets for the next big Two Knights Event, the latest in the Seven Deadly Sins series, Gluttony which takes place Saturday, May 7 at Neumos with special guest DJ Paul Goodyear. We’ll have more on this eagerly awaited party, SOON.
